How To Know Who You Love

The world says that unless you love yourself, you can’t love anyone else. And the world’s example used most often is this: You are on an airplane and the oxygen goes away. The masks drop down…

Unless you put your mask on first, you can’t help anyone else put their mask on. So, unless you love yourself first, how are you ever going to love anyone else. Sounds like a pretty good point.

But here is where it breaks down. Love isn’t what you do, it’s why you do it.

So, the question then becomes: Why do you put your mask on first?

If you put your mask on first, to make sure you get a mask, you love yourself. If you put your mask on first to help the people around you get a mask, you love your neighbor.

But, what are you going to do if only one mask falls down between you and the person next to you? If you help them put it on, you love your neighbor. If you hurry up and put it on, you love yourself. If you both share it, you love each other.

So, love isn’t what we do. It’s why we do it.

If we get love right, everything else in our lives, begins to fall into place.

This is woven all throughout God’s Word: Save your life, you’re going to lose it. Lay it down for His sake and you will find it.

Trust God’s Word no matter what.
