If They Don’t Know This, They Can’t Love You

And if we don’t know this, we can’t love anyone either. If we don’t know what love is, how are we ever going to love anybody? If the harder we fight, the worse it gets, we are not fighting to love, we are fighting to be loved. We are watering the fruit and expecting the root to take care of itself. That’s not how it works. You have to water the roots and then the fruit takes care of itself. Love is not a feeling. It is a decision. The whole problem with not being loved as a child is not that we weren’t loved—that hurts us, but that is not what derails our lives. What derails our lives is that we were not taught how to love. So, we go through our life following our feelings and fighting to be loved, not realizing we are destroying love in our lives in the process. The world calls this self-love. It is the greatest enemy of love that has ever been. Love is self-less. It does what’s best for you, not me. Love is all of me for you, not all of you for me. 1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. Trust God no matter what. Keep your eyes on the horizon.
