SEAHAWKS FIND STRENGTH IN GOD FOR THE BIG GAME

Something big is happening Sunday. And if you are at all in tune with social media, the news, television commercials, or even just your local grocery store, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

On Sunday, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks will meet head-to-head, (or should we say helmet-to-helmet), on the NFL’s largest stage. Millions will be watching, giving the game and the players a unique opportunity, but putting an immense amount of pressure on them at the same time.

So what is a professional athlete to do when faced with pressure to perform and ultimately, the pressure to win – for their teammates, their coaches, their fans, and their cities? These athletes can find comfort in the Word’s reminders. Two Seahawks, in particular, wear those reminders daily.

Richard Sherman, a cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks, is currently one of the most talked about players in this weekend’s match-up for comments he made following the game-ending play that allowed his team to play on Sunday. Sherman wrote 10 Things I Learned After America Learned About Me (http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/28/richard-sherman-seattle-seahawks-super-bowl-xlviii/) in response to the backlash from his comments.

According to the Dallas News, another player, Earl Thomas III, has been called a “miracle child” by his mother. She has been told she would not be able to have children following a diagnosis of cervical cancer. He is now a safety for the number-one defense in the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks.

Both Sherman and Thomas wear Shields of Strength necklaces, as do other teammates. I am certain these guys are facing an incredible amount of anxiety and stress this weekend. But there is hope in the Word of God … worn around their necks, transferring to their hearts, apparent in their lives.

Perhaps Sherman and Thomas are starting a revolution. Or perhaps, their teammates are changing them. Regardless of who is affecting whom, the fact is: the Seahawks have an undeniable strength on their side.

About Shields of Strength:

The Shields of Strength concept came about in 1997 as a simple reminder of the power that was in God's word. As the daily reminder of God’s word moved from simple words written on sports equipment, to life-changing words written on his heart, the Shields of Strength founder realized others needed that reminder as much as he did.

Years later, Shields of Strength has been written about by the Associated Press, Fox News, CBN and so on. They have made more than three million shields all with the prayer they would serve as an effective reminder of God's word. They have donated hundreds of thousands to our military and other ministries. Shields of Strength have become one of the most worn emblems by the US Military. These scriptural items have been used by churches as outreach tools, hospitals for encouragement, athletes for courage, etc. Shields of Strength’s mission is for lives to be forever changed by scripture.
