Welcome to our Shields of Strength Blog Series. We are excited about this opportunity to interact with you. We plan to cover a wide range of topic; to include, manufacturing processes, care and cleaning of Shields of Strength, insights to our small but growing company, stories of faith, and personal testimonies of the life changing power of God’s Word engraved on Shields of Strength.
First, we want to sincerely thank you for allowing us the honor and privilege of creating Shields of Strength. Sharing the love, hope, truth, and power of God’s Word is our mission and we cannot imagine doing anything else with our lives. The mission is bigger than any one person, it is a collective mission shared by everyone who wears a Shield of Strength. We are honored to be on this team with you.
Second, a little Shields of Strength history. Shields of Strength began in 1997 with the sole purpose of providing a daily reminder of God’s word for the person wearing the Shield. Over the subsequent 18 years, we have been humbled to witness Shields of Strength worn globally by people of differing races, ethnicities, ages, genders, customs, political ideologies, languages, and beliefs. God’s Word is love and it alone bridges rivers of hate, prejudices, and separation. By the grace of God, we have witnessed the life changing power of God’s Word in the lives of people across the United States and in almost every Nation...truly God’s Word is being shared globally. We are humbled beyond measure to be a part of this mission and we thank you for teaming with us.
One of the questions that routinely comes up is: "How did you guys choose stainless steel for your jewelry line and why?”
Well, we explored many alloy options before choosing stainless steel for a complete line of Shields of Strength. We conducted extensive research on a variety of metals; to include, sterling silver and gold. As we all know, gold is very expensive. We loved the beauty and strength of gold. However, we wanted to keep prices affordable to allow more people the ability to have God’s Word engraved on a Shield of Strength. Like gold, we loved sterling silver. However, it tarnishes easily and requires constant maintenance to keep its luster. We wanted an alloy that would stand the test of time while remaining beautiful, strong, and require limited cleaning and polishing. Our research led us to stainless steel. Here are some facts we discovered about stainless steel:
- Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy which has as excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content
- Stainless steel is also extremely hard. In fact, its so hard and durable that many times its used for vital components in the auto industry
- Stainless steel is often known as the "Superman of all metals", for its super strong properties
- Stainless steel was invented between 1900-1915
- A Frenchman name Berthier made it what it is today. He discovered that by adding at least 15% of carbon to the chromium and iron, stainless steel became super strong and durable
- Stainless Steel is often compared to pure gold because they are both so beautiful and durable
Our research led to the selection of stainless steel and we have been so very pleased with the results and positive feedback from retailers and most importantly from you, our teammates. Other questions we receive through Instagram, Facebook, and email are:
Will Stainless Steel Tarnish or Corrode? Unlike silver, stainless steel will not tarnish or rust. Because of the chemical alloy combinations of carbon, chromium and iron, a chromium oxide film develops to prevent rust and tarnish from forming. Stainless Steel is not only affordable but it is a truly beautiful alloy as well.
Is Stainless Steel Non-Allergenic? Most people who have jewelry allergies have a reaction to nickel based properties. Stainless steel does not incorporate nickel alloy and it is one of the most biocompatible metals. In fact, the majority of all surgical instruments are made from stainless steel. Stainless steel is ideal for medical instruments because of its strength and resistance to corrosion.
How do i clean stainless steel jewelry? Stainless steel is one of the easiest metals to clean and maintain. This characteristic makes it an ideal metal for quality jewelry. To clean stainless steel Shields of Strength, simply soak your jewelry in warm water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. While soaking, lightly rub the jewelry with a soft non-abrasive bath style wash cloth. Following this procedure, gently dry the stainless steel piece with a soft cotton cloth.
