Struggling With Faith

Struggling With Faith

Doubt

Many people struggle with their faith at different times in their lives. Some of the most committed and godly leaders have struggled with doubts, just like everyone else. I believe one of the reasons people struggle with faith is because these days the word faith has become a popular meaning to describe any religion regardless of whether there is foundational truth. In other words, someone could claim “faith” in anything they choose for spiritual healing, and that claim would be considered equally viable to the Christians’ claim that the Bible is God’s inspired Word. Unfortunately the world has distorted faith to be anything we choose to believe. Hebrews 11:1 tells us "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." I don't believe God ever intended us to believe with no evidence.

Seek Him

The purpose for faith is to bring us into the presence of God. Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.” We can only find Him when we come to Him through faith in His Son (John 14:6). Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” God does not bless half-hearted attempts to know Him. He desires that we pursue Him with passion, the same way He pursues us (1 John 4:19).

Evidence

You can rest assured that God has given us plenty of substance and evidence for a strong faith.  Faith is not derived from our prayers being answered the way we want them to be answered. It is trusting that God has perfect intentions, perfect timing, perfect methods, and perfect results. As we focus our minds on the Lord and trust in Him, we will know peace, not frustration (Isaiah 26:3).  Frustration with God is a byproduct of our own stubbornness. So, you can rest easy knowing that true faith in God, and His Son Jesus Christ, is not a worldly faith. God provides substance and evidence for our faith and the more we trust in Him the more substance and evidence He gives to us.
