The Difference Between Liking and Loving Someone
Liking someone says very little to nothing about us, but normally says something about them.
Loving someone says very little to nothing about them, but says a lot about us.
We normally don’t control who we like. We either like them or we don’t, based on who they are and what they do. It’s a feeling we have very little control over.
Loving someone is the exact opposite. We have total control over that. If we only love the people that we like, then in reality people--not us--determine who we love and I would suggest to you that if we only love the people we like, maybe we don’t love anyone. Maybe we just love people loving us.
You don’t have to like someone to love them.
Luke 6:32-36
If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
