What does a strong man protect others from more than anything else?

In a lifetime, a man may be forced to defend others from physical harm a few times, unless he has volunteered his life to defend others on a daily basis in the military or law enforcement. God bless them! For the rest of us, if faced with the challenge, we should be prepared and willingly accept the risk. I always knew this, but what I never considered or prepared enough for was that on a daily basis, I had a responsibility to protect others, and even those I love most from myself. (Not suggesting I’m a strong man). My wife and children don’t just need to know I will keep them safe from others. They must know above all, they are safe and protected from me. They must know that they know that the man closest to them is for them. My responsibility is to make sure my family feels safer in my presence than anywhere else. They need to know they can question me and challenge me without the fear of retaliation, and that nothing they could ever do would cause me to hurt them. Laying down our lives for our family can mean dying for them, but most of the time it means living for them. John 15:13,”Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
