Why You Struggle To Forgive Yourself

It’s modern psychology that teaches this idea that we need to forgive ourselves. It also teaches that we need to forgive others for ourselves. Neither one of those is the truth. My forgiveness is not for me, but for you and for others. Just imagine I do something incredibly offensive to you, and I come back the next day and say, “Oh, by the way, I forgave myself.” You did what? That is not how it works. I don’t have the power to forgive myself. So, quit trying to forgive yourself. Well, what do you do? This is what you do. You have to understand you are forgiven. You don’t need to love yourself, either. Because you are already loved. Love forgives. God is love and he forgives you. So, instead of spending the rest of your life trying to forgive yourself and never finding any freedom and staying trapped in that, you have to learn how to accept His forgiveness. Because He has already forgiven you. When you accept the truth of His forgiveness for you, you will be free—just like that. Instead of being proud of yourself for forgiving yourself, you will be humbled and extremely grateful that God would forgive you, despite what you did.
Think about it!
Psalms 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Trust God’s Word, no matter what.
